Getting to know Fujairah
Fujairah is the only emirate facing the Gulf of Oman rather than the Arabian Gulf, cut off from the west coast by the Hajar mountains. The highway through the mountains puts it within about ninety minutes of Dubai. Its port, one of the world's largest ship-refuelling centres, fills the anchorage offshore.
The restored Fujairah Fort and the heritage village beside it stand at the foot of the mountains; Al Bidya Mosque, north along the coast, is considered the oldest mosque still in use in the country. The coast is the country's best-known diving area, around Snoopy Island and Dibba, and Fujairah International Airport serves the east coast.
