Getting to know Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate, sits between the Gulf and the Hajar mountains, about an hour's drive from Dubai. Its creek divides the old town from Al Nakheel, and the city stretches north towards the Omani enclave of Musandam. Local buses are run by the RAK Transport Authority, and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport lies south of the city.
Jebel Jais, the highest summit on the UAE side of the Hajar, is reached by a mountain road with viewpoints, hiking trails and one of the world's longest zip lines. On the coast, Al Marjan Island's artificial islands carry the resort hotels, while Dhayah Fort and the abandoned pearling village of Al Jazirat Al Hamra recall the emirate's older history.
