Getting to know Umm Al Quwain

Umm Al Quwain is the least populated of the seven emirates. Its old town sits at the tip of a narrow peninsula between the Gulf and a lagoon lined with mangroves and small islands, including Al Sinniyah, a protected bird sanctuary and archaeological site.

Life here is slower than in the neighbouring emirates: fishing, boat building and water sports on the lagoon, with the fort and museum in the old town. The city lies on the coastal highway north of Ajman, reached by car or intercity bus, and most services lie in the newer districts inland.
